Maybe you’re feeling overwhelmed, uncertain and a little out of whack with all that’s going on right now (I know I am). Should you keep calm and carry on? Or should you join the crowds and buy ALL the pasta and tinned veg? I don’t have all the answers, I don’t think anyone does. But I do want to share some lockdown tips to help you get through another lockdown.
Top Lockdown Tips
Here are my top lockdown tips and takeaways that I hope will help you navigate this time as we go into lockdown again:
Look after your mental health
Easier said then done I know. Another lockdown might make you feel anxious, sad, frightened or alone. Apps like Calm are offering free content at the moment and are great for anxiety. If I can’t sleep I always listen to the sleep stories to help my mind relax. Some people swear by CBD oil. Make sure to check out websites that discuss the benefits of CBD oil, so that you get everything you need to know about the products before trying them.
If you’re really struggling seek support, whether from friends, family or your GP.
Get regular exercise and fresh air
Go outside for fresh air and exercise. Lunchtime walks even in the rain can make you feel much better. If you really can’t face the winter weather have a look on YouTube for exercise videos, they have everything from yoga and pilates to high energy fat burning routines.
Be Healthy
Try and maintain a healthy diet – easier said then done this time of year and I’m certainly not the best example! However I do always try and make sure I drink plenty of water, have fruit and veg every day and enjoy my herbal teas.
Try not to eat anything in excess. It’s ok to treat yourself but try not to go overboard.

Stay connected through technology and social media
The year 2020 will forever be known as the year everyone started to video call! Keep in touch with family and friends via video calls. Also check out my Saturday Social on Instagram to make new friends.
Play a game
If you’re feeling bored why not play a game? It could be anything from Solitaire if you’re on your own, to monopoly if you’re with your family. Playing games can be a great way to get rid of boredom and elevate mood.
Help others, particularly the vulnerable
Even if it’s just a quick call to check they’re ok. If you did buy all the toilet roll, share it out!! If you have any vulnerable friends or neighbours let them know you’re there for them.
Talk to your kids
I can’t believe how amazing our kids have been but although your child may seem like they’re coping, it’s worth asking them how they are feeling about everything. Let them know that you’re there for them and talk about any worries that they may have.
Take time to talk about what you are grateful for and ask them what they are grateful for too. Spend time together, even if it’s just snuggled up watching a movie or playing fun and silly games together that make you laugh out loud.

Have fun
Just because we’re in lockdown doesn’t mean you can’t have fun. Whether it’s a virtual murder mystery with friends on zoom, wine tasting date night with your partner or movie and popcorn night with the kids.
Be kind to yourself
Don’t beat yourself up. It’s ok not to feel great and it’s ok to have bad days. You are only human and you need to be kind to yourself and forgive yourself. Also take time to yourself. Even if it’s just a soak in the bath with a good book.
Remember no one is perfect and you’re doing great in really difficult times!
Support local and small businesses
Times are so tough for so many. Where you can, support local and small businesses. Whether it’s the farm shop up the road who is delivering veg and eggs or a small Etsy seller who has some great Christmas gifts.
Lockdown won’t last forever
Finally and most importantly of all, remember this isn’t going to last forever. It’s going to be tough but Spring is on the other side of this. A vaccination hopefully will be out soon and we will look back with pride at how we all coped and made sacrifices to keep our loved ones safe and protected from the virus.
