How to manage pain while parenting

When you are trying to manage pain while parenting, you will notice how hard life seems to be. Parenting is hard enough as it is. But when you are living with chronic pain, you are having to manage looking after children whilst also feeling like you are in constant pain. It’s not easy!

At some point, most of us have to live with some kind of pain. Whether it’s a headache from watching too much TV, to a toothache you have to manage until you can get an appointment at the Dentists. The thing is, chronic pain is different. Trying to be in charge of a house and manage the children and their routines while you feel like you’ve been run over by a truck is hard – but not impossible.

Manage pain while parenting

Headaches and toothaches can be managed with painkillers and other types of pain relief, but chronic pain is a little different. You need to see a doctor for the right medication, sure, but chronic pain often needs a little something more. It’s not always effective, of course, but that doesn’t mean that you can’t keep trying. Whether you want to buy CBD oil or you get it prescribed, it can make a big difference to your pain levels and how you feel.

Having children can make managing pain harder. You have to try to be on demand 24/7 when your body just wants to rest, sleep and stay as still as possible. You just need some help to get through the day sometimes.

The good news is that medication may not be all you need. There are plenty of ways to manage pain which can fit into your life when you are busy with the kids. Let’s take a look at some of the techniques that you can use to manage your pain while you are trying to be a good parent at the same time.

Herbal remedies

Mainstream medication is lauded for a reason: it’s been tried and tested and you know it works. Medicine has changed a lot over the years, but that doesn’t mean that herbal remedies should be discounted.

So many people recommend lavender and other herbs to help you manage your pain better.

Laughing can help

You are raising beautiful, funny and intelligent children and those children are going to make you laugh. The laughter that you let out is going to release endorphins in the brain and reduce your pain as a result. Not only that, but laughter will reduce the inflammation and stress on your body as well. When you spend time with the kids – even if you are on the sofa in a nest of pillows – you can laugh together and this can make you feel like your pain is much easier to bear.

Reduce your stress

If you can reduce your stress levels, you’re going to help your pain levels to lower. You can feel worse with your pain if your brain is stressed out. You can also physically feel those pain levels lower if you are reducing your stress. Your body is tense when you are stressed. When you relax, your pain levels can reduce and your stress reduces at the same time.

Change your diet

Believe it or not, food can trigger a pain response. The right, healthy diet with the best vitamins and minerals will help your body to better respond to pain. You can boost your immune system and reduce other problems, which will help. Ginger, garlic, turmeric and cinnamon will help you to reduce inflammation in the body. This will give you some more control over your pain.

Distraction

You are a parent, so you already have the biggest distraction going. The power of the kids in distracting you will make a big difference to your pain levels. If you can get the kids to help you to stop thinking about your pain, you’re going to feel better overall. You can listen to music, play board games and watch movies together to distract yourself, and it will help.

See the Doctor

If you have tried all of these remedies and you still feel like your pain is overbearing, you need to see your doctor. Anything that you can do to reduce your pain is a good decision, and seeing the doctor will help.
