About Me

Welcome to My Balancing Act. This blog is dedicated to providing practical advice for busy working mums as well as providing inspiration for family travel and adventures so you can make the most of your time together as a family. It’s all about how to balance life as a working mum and how to find the perfect work/life balance.

Working Mum Life

I’m Rowena, working mum to my gorgeous little man, Sam. This blog was created after I returned to work when my son was 9 months old. I was exhausted, had lost my self-confidence and suffered from a crazy amount of working mum guilt. So I started the blog to help other parents in a similar situation and to build a community of like minded mums.

Being a working mum is incredibly rewarding but can be tricky at times and means that I try to make the most of my time with my son, hence lots of fun outings and adventures, cooking and crafting, as well as those wonderful days where we just stay at home and play!

I’m based in West Sussex, in the UK. I graduated from Bournemouth University with an HND in Tourism and Business and I also have a Diploma in Journalism and an IDM Award in Social Media.

Family Travel

I love and have always loved travel! I’ve been lucky enough to visit so many amazing places and through my blog have worked with amazing travel companies including Jet2 Holidays, Clickstay and Radisson Blu.

As a family travel expert and family travel blogger, I’ve also contributed to Family Traveller Magazine.

Disney Guru

Having visited Disneyland Paris from the year it opened to the present day, as well as trips to Disney in Florida, I love everything Disney and have lots of tips and advice for my readers.

Journalist and Travel Writer

As a journalist I’ve written articles for publications such as A Place in the Sun and Your Cat magazine. I was the Editor of Learn London and Entrepreneur (guides published as supplements in Time Out London) so I have always been an advocate and supporter of people developing their skills and careers to achieve great things. During my time as Editor, I interviewed some fabulous people including Lord Alan Sugar and Ruby Wax. I’ve also written guest blog posts for HolidayLettings, TripAdvisor and the RSPB.

I was also the Editor of the Caravan Europe Travel Guides, sold in Waterstones, Amazon and WH Smiths.

I still love writing and I am currently editing the final draft of a Children’s book I have written, Harper Darker’s Diary. I also still work as a freelance journalist on occasion and contribute family travel articles to Family Traveller.

When Sam was born, my whole world changed completely. Everything I thought I knew about being a mum was not as I expected and it took me by surprise, I wasn’t quite the laid-back mum I thought I would be! Suddenly I had the most precious little person who I was responsible for taking care of and I was terrified! It took me a while to realise I was actually doing ok and my son was thriving and growing up to be a wonderful, confident little boy, someone I am very proud of. Whatever I may achieve in life, Sam will always be my greatest achievement and being a mum is the best thing I have ever done.

Why subscribe to My Balancing Act

In this blog I will share our adventures and offer help, advice and inspiration to other working mums and stay at home mums alike. I also want to hear from my readers and would love for you to share your thoughts and experiences in the comment section of the blog posts. Other hardworking mums, whether you’re a stay at home mum, working from home mum or working away from home mum, are my biggest inspiration.

I hope that you enjoy the blog and follow me on my working mum life journey.
