Easter 2021 is another year in lockdown. It’s brilliant that restrictions have been eased. We will actually be able to meet up with up to 6 people in total outdoors, but it’s still not quite the same. It’s another two weeks of the kids being at home after only just returning to school. The recent 8 weeks of home learning was a challenge and I’m sure I’m not the only one who is short on ideas on how to keep the kids happy and entertained over the Easter holidays. That’s why I’ve put together the Easter 2021 guide on how to keep the kids entertained this Easter.

Find Aliens this Easter with the Space Centre UK
Normally we’re hunting for Easter eggs at this time of year but the Space Centre have other ideas! Are your little ones ready to go on a very exciting and very important mission this Easter? If so read on because the Space Centre needs you for their Aliens and Exoplanet Easter event! They have a three week online mission to discover the possibility of life in our Universe.
The Space Centre’s three week Easter holiday period (which includes the whole of the UK) has many highlights. There’s a daily craft session on their Facebook page at 11:00 and the weekly Space Cadets online club.
Big Little Tent Festival
Big Little Tent Festival has your Easter covered! The Saturday and Sunday of Easter weekend (3rd and 4th April) is jam packed with free events for the whole family. There’s a tour and Q&A with a local farm (and their gorgeous little lambs!), zoom parties with magic, princesses, super heroes and campfire storytelling, cooking Easter recipes with the amazing Karen Wright from the Great British Bake Off and learning Bushcraft skills from a scout leader – oh and also a family quiz!! There really is something for everyone and a wonderful way to keep the kids happy and entertained.
As well as the free events there is also a FREE downloadable activity pack. It’s full of games, activities, recipes and ideas on how to create a family festival from your own home. If you download the pack you will also be entered into a giveaway to win two children’s Raleigh bikes.
I know how good the Big Little Tent is going to be as I’m part of the team organising it as it’s run by the Caravan and Motorhome Club. Myself and Mark are even hoping to put up our trailer tent on the drive on the Saturday to get into the camping vibe.
Virtual Library
The lovely people at JellyFish are opening up 40 books for free to read online as part of their Easter Reading initiative. The books will be available from Tuesday 30 March at 9am to Tuesday 6 April at 9am.
Myself and my son are going to be making a recipe from the Easy Peasy cook book by by Mary Contini and Pru Irvine. There’s such a fabulous selection of recipes from snacks, dinners and treats plus much more. I want to try to make the courgette chips together with my son. And my son is adamant we’re making the maple syrup pancakes!
There’s a wonderful selection of books to choose from including stories to get little imaginations going. The best thing is there’s books for us grown ups to enjoy too. There are three main categories:
- Discover Our Planet for young readers.
- Explore the Natural World for young adult and grown-up readers.
- Discover new places, new things to do and fascinating history in the UK and Ireland for grown-up readers.
This is a great opportunity to discover a good book and go on a journey with your imagination.
National Trust Easter Egg Hunts
The National Trust is the perfect place to take the kids and meet the Grandparents over the Easter holidays. They are also organising some Easter Egg Hunts for the family to enjoy. The perfect way to go out and enjoy the beautiful grounds of a National Trust property, get some fresh air and exercise and have lots of fun.
Natural History Museum
If you have a little palaeontologist in the making, then head on over the the Natural History Museum’s website. From how to draw a dinosaur, make a origami T-Rex, to the what dinosaur are you quiz, there’s plenty to keep the kids occupied. There’s also games and crafts and activities. We are going to have a go at making our own volcano!
