Mermaid Gin

Mermaid Gin is one of the most beautiful bottles of Gin I have ever seen! It doesn’t just look good though, it tastes wonderful too! This is also a great gift for anyone who cares about the environment as the bottle is plastic free with a plant-based seal around the sustainably sourced cork and wooden stopper. The stunning bottle has sculpted scales that reflect and retract light, resembling the tail of the mystical sea creature, the mermaid. The gin’s clear blue and deep green colours bring the sea to mind, perfect as it’s from the Isle of Wight’s only distillery.
Mermaid Gin is a hand-crafted small batch gin distilled using ten ethically-sourced botanicals. It features the freshness or organic lemon zest, the peppery notes in grains of paradise and a hint of sea air from the fragrant rock samphire, which was foraged from the Isle of Wight’s cliffs and is known locally as ‘Mermaid’s kiss’. Hence the name of the gin!
The Mermaid Gin is available from Tesco, Marks & Spencer, John Lewis, Harvey Nichols and Masterofmalt.com
Mermaid Vodka

From the Isle of Wight Distillery, Mermaid Salt Vodka is actually infused with island sea salt that enhances the smoothness of the drink as well as the flavour. Salt is known to enhance other flavours which is why Mermaid Salt Vodka works so perfectly in cocktails.
Very popular on the Isle of Wight, it is now available for the first time on the mainland. It makes a stunning gift with it’s eco-friendly bottle sculpted with scales. It’s unique in that the salt in the vodka is from the island’s surrounding seas. Harvested by ‘Wright Salt’ from water collected in the powerful flood tide off the southern coast of the Isle of Wight; an area which is prone to extreme storms that churn up the ocean floor releasing huge amounts of flavour packed nutrients. Then naturally evaporated by sun and wind, the salt retains a depth of flavour and distinct sweetness.
Plastic free and Net Zero, this is an environmentally friendly vodka with a hint of sea air and a glimpse of a mermaid! I personally can’t wait to try it in a Bloody Mary!
Available in John Lewis or online via Masterofmalt.com

Bobby’s Gin

This Gin is a Dutch Indonesian gin, which is very accurately described as ‘Dutch courage mixed with Indonesian spirit’. The blend of juniper with whole clove, cubeb, pepper cinnamon, lemongrass, rose hips, fennel and coriander creates a wonderful spicy and fragrant flavour with a hint of citrus and a bite of pepper!
It’s both exotic but with familiar Christmas flavours making it the perfect gift at Christmas. It is also rich in history being named after the founders Grandfather who emigrated to Holland in the 50s and missed the taste of Indonesia. As such he started infusing Dutch gin with spices from his homeland. The original recipe is the inspiration for this gin and the beautiful ‘Ikat’ pattern on the bottle, a traditional Indonesian design, brings this gin to life!

Malvirà Saglietto Arneis 2016 | Roero DOCG

This ward-winning refreshing and elegant organic white wine by Malvirà winery is a perfect gift or alterantively the perfect wine to complement your Christmas dinner. The signature white grape of Piedmont, Arneis is very refreshing. It has aromas of white flowers, peach and grapefruit.
Named “Saglietto” after a vineyard in Roero that overlooks the valley of the Tanaro river, the grapes were grown and picked by hand in September. Following this, half of the wine was matured in 450-litre oak barrels and the rest in stainless steel vats. This gives the wine a gentle taste of toast and vanilla, while preserving the delicate floral aroma. Arneis has high acidity and strong aromas, giving the potential to age beautifully, hence why it’s the perfect gift for a wine lover.
Malvirà winery is organic certified and carbon neutral, constructed deep underground with geothermal heating and cooling systems. The wine has medium aroma of tropical fruits, lemon, pear and apple, complemented by hints of bread, vanilla and honey. Very refreshing with high acidity, medium body and a pleasant finish, this wine will pair nicely with your Christmas turkey, chicken, oysters or scallops, feta cheese and chevre and vegetarian dishes with light sauces.
Malvirà Saglietto Arneis 2016 | Roero DOCG is available from independent wine.
Siddùra Erema | Cannonau di Sardegna DOC

As you can see from the above photo, this wine, is my new favourite! With aromas of fresh and spiced berries, it’s made from Sardinia’s signature black grape, a winner of the Decanter Bronze Medal.
The wine is made from Cannonau, a black grape varietal which is believed to be the most ancient in the Mediterranean and is super-charged with anti-oxidants. The grapes for this wine were harvested by hand, left to macerate for two weeks and then fermented in stainless tanks at a controlled temperature. After this, it was matured sur lee to develop texture and more complex flavours. The wine was then aged in large oak barrels for 12 months, and bottled in the winter of 2018.
Located in the north of Sardinia, Siddùra winery is recognised as one of the highest-achieving Italian wineries. Every year since 2013 they have won Decanter Gold, Silver, Bronze and Platinum medals – as well as countless awards in Germany, Belgium, Austria and other countries.
Erema has a beautiful deep ruby colour and powerful aromas of wild berries and cherry, as well as spicy black pepper. Dry and fresh, full-bodied, with smooth rounded tannins and high acidity it goes perfectly with pork loin or beef stew, tuna, ripe brie or any aged cheese, grilled vegetables and spicy sauces. It’s the perfect gift for Christmas and will go wonderfully with a cheeseboard.
Siddùra Erema | Cannonau di Sardegna DOC is available from independent wine.

Beronia Rueda Verdejo

A lovely light and refreshing white wine from the up and coming Rueda region of North West Spain. This goes perfectly with salads, tapas or meze meals and take my word for it, it is very drinkable!!
Pale yellow in colour with greenish tints, this wine is wonderfully aromatic. It has notes of citrus and white fruit along with herbaceous aromas that are typical of the grape variety, such as fennel. A fresh and elegant wine, with a slight touch of bitterness on the finish, also characteristic of the Verdejo grape. It comes in a beautiful bottle and will make a lovely gift for the wine lover in your life.
