As humans, we’re hard-wired to run away from danger and risk, which is why we can be hesitant to try new things and experience anxiety. While it can be terrifying for them, it’s important that you help your child to develop their optimism and take calculated risks. It’s through trying new things that we grow and develop. I have teamed up with a group of educational professionals to share guidance on how you can help your child with this. So here’s how to raise an optimistic child.

Try New Things Together
Stepping out of your comfort zone can be scary, especially for children. Taking that step with them can help show them that it’s not as daunting as it seems, growing their optimism and desire to explore.
Refrain From Always Stepping In
While it is nice to have support and a helping hand, it’s important to also make sure that your child does not become reliant on you. Where your parental instincts may kick in and tell you that your child needs your help, try taking a step back to allow them the opportunity to try for themselves. It will help them to develop their confidence and self-belief that they can achieve what they put their mind to. This will help them to become more independent and optimistic. In turn, they will grow new skills and develop as a person.
Push Them Outside
Sometimes that doesn’t always come naturally to children and they will need a nudge. Using praise and encouragement can help them to take a leap of faith.

Be a Positive Role Model
Your fearlessness can also rub off on your child. As their parents, they will respect and look up to you as their role model. This is why you must be a reflection of the lessons that you teach. Even if you’re a little reserved and apprehensive as a person, you can use that to your advantage to show your willingness to learn and try new things.
Risk Taking
While there is a lot that can be learned through taking on risks, there is also potential for things to go wrong. This should be weighed up by you as their parent and something that you teach them to do so that they can avoid danger and make sensible decisions.
Goals
Having goals is important as it helps us to establish purpose and a reason to continue with what we’re doing. It also helps us to be optimistic by encouraging us to think about the future. This motivates us to work harder and achieve more. It is also believed that those written down are more likely to be achieved as there’s a record and reminder. While it’s important to set long-term career goals, it’s just as important to set short and mid-term career goals as they help to stay focused and motivated by seeing the progress made.
