In the modern world, home is the place where we spend most of our time. We not only live there, but many of us now work from home too. Your home can be a sanctuary or a prison. It can be an escape from the daily grind or a place to relax after a long day. The way we design our homes can significantly impact this feeling and experience so it’s important to create an inviting home.
We want our homes to be welcoming, comfortable, and relaxing. We want it to feel like a cosy cocoon where we can escape from the outside world. But how do we create the perfect home?
Achieving this goal is not easy. It requires careful planning and consideration of every detail. We need to think about what colours to use, what furniture to buy, and how to arrange it all to make the space feel inviting.
There are so many factors that go into designing an inviting home. However, there are some basics that we should always keep in mind:
Brighten up your home to make it more inviting

It might just need a fresh coat of paint or a new picture on the wall. I find having plants, and a vase full of flowers brightens up my home and makes it much more inviting. If you have an old shabby, or stained sofa, don’t worry, you can easily cover this up with a soft blanket or throw.
Light a scented candle or wax melt when guests are coming over to make your home smell lovely.
Create spaces for different activities and needs
Creating space for each activity and need is a great way to make the most of your home. Each zone can help you declutter, de-stress, or just have more peace of mind.
The kitchen is for cooking and eating; the lounge is for entertainment; the conservatory or spare room is your home office, etc. If you feel you don’t have enough space speak to builders to find out your options for creating more room in your home. You may be able to extend or have a loft conversion.

Don’t forget about storage space
A home needs storage for everything you don’t want to have lying around the house. Storage is necessary for a home to have a sense of organisation and order. It offers a sense of comfort and relaxation by ensuring everything has its place.
Many different storage solutions can be used in the home, including wardrobes, dressers, and boxes. These can be pretty inexpensive, but they can only store so much stuff before they become too full. Another standard storage solution is the attic which has more space, but it can be not easy to access when you need something from it.
Appropriate storage solutions will help you keep your home tidy, making it more inviting to guests.
Remember, your home doesn’t have to be perfect!
We are all so busy these days, and we shouldn’t set our expectations of ourselves or our home too high. You do not need a perfect home to entertain friends and family. Home is where the heart is, and your friends have come to see you, not your home!

I’m such a big advocate for creating ample storage space. I can’t stand it when everything is out on show. It looks so much nicer when it’s all tucked away
