11 Amazing Ideas for Halloween Half Term Fun

This Halloween is going to be a bit different for our kids. Trick or treating is not possible and we can’t meet up in groups to have a Halloween party. You might even live in an area in lockdown. So how can we make this Halloween special and have some Halloween Half Term Fun?

Halloween Trails

Why not have a walk around your neighbourhood to count the pumpkins you spot in people’s windows or outside their houses? Reward your kids with a sweet in their Halloween bucket for each pumpkin they see! Alternatively, have a checklist of all the things they need to spot – spiders, witches, ghosts, etc.

Your kids can still dress up and have fun!

Halloween Baking

Cook up some treats for Halloween and get your kids having fun in the kitchen! Check out the Halloween Gingerbeard Men Recipe on my blog.

Halloween Box

Very similar to a Christmas Eve Box you can surprise your kids with a Halloween Box. Add some Halloween craft, pumpkin or ghost stickers and some sweets of course! You don’t have to go out and buy a flash box. Just use an old shoe box and either wrap in halloween paper or get the kids to paint or decorate it.

Go on a Ghost Hunt

What could be spookier than a Halloween ghost hunt! Plus you can try and teach your kids a bit of history at the same time.

Check out the National Trust’s most haunted places for ideas of where to go for your ghost hunt. Read about the ghost and on your visit keep your eyes open for any spooky apparitions!

Halloween Movie Night

Now I’m not talking about Freddie here but there are plenty of fun kids movies to watch at halloween. Get the popcorn, light the pumpkins and snuggle under a blanket together to get your spook on!!

Party at Home

Find or create a Halloween playlist with some spooky funds and get a disco ball out! Set up games in your house such as apple bobbing.

Become a Mad Scientist

The perfect time to experiment with science is Halloween! I love this kit, the Science Lab by Galt. It even has a floaty ghost experiment, perfect for Halloween.

Get Slimey

Make your own slime or buy some Slime Play from Amazon. Or why not even have a slime bath for the ultimate Halloween experience!

Family Fun Days Out during Halloween Half Term

Many attractions are opening their doors to Halloween fun this year. We have the Big Sheep planned as well as a trip to the Sealife Centre. Check with local attractions what they have on and remember to book in advance as most places are offering a timed entry.

Pumpkin Picking

Of course this had to be on the list – pumpkin picking! Many farms are open as usual so go find your perfect pumpkin!

House Trick or Treating

Decorate some rooms in your house (kitchen, lounge, bedrooms – even bathroom with some slime in the sink!). Get your kids dressed up in costume and have them knock on each door of each room shouting ‘trick or treat’. You will of course be in each room handing out sweets.

It’s not quite the same but if your brave enough you could even let them play a ‘trick’ for the room which says ‘not today thank you!’.
