Work, Mum, Magic! How to Weave Little Rituals into a Busy Day

Life as a working mum is a beautiful, chaotic whirlwind. Between shuttling the kids to school, managing work deadlines, and keeping on top of all the little things that hold a household together, days can pass in a blur. Am I the only one that sometimes thinks, it feels like the only time weโ€™re standing still is when we finally collapse into bed at the end of the day?! If youโ€™re anything like me, there might be days when you feel a little lost in it all, like youโ€™ve left a part of yourself behind while trying to keep pace.

Thatโ€™s where my belief in magic comes in. No, Iโ€™m not talking about waving a wand and making the laundry disappear (although, wouldnโ€™t that be nice?). Iโ€™m talking about the quiet, real magic thatโ€™s always there, waiting for us to reach out and grab hold of it. The kind of magic that helps you feel grounded, reconnected, and like youโ€™ve reclaimed a small piece of yourself amid the daily hustle.

Iโ€™ve learned that bringing a little magic into my day doesnโ€™t require extra time (because who has that?) or elaborate rituals. Itโ€™s all about weaving tiny moments of intention, connection, and wonder into what Iโ€™m already doing. These little acts of self-care and mindfulness help me stay balanced and remind me that Iโ€™m not just “Mum” or “Employee” – Iโ€™m also me. If youโ€™re a busy mum looking to bring a spark of magic back into your routine, here are a few simple ways to get started.

Start the Day With a Magical Morning

Mornings can be hectic, especially if youโ€™re wrangling kids and juggling a packed schedule. But even in the chaos, thereโ€™s room for a little magic. The way you start your morning sets the tone for the rest of your day, so why not infuse it with some intention and positive energy?

Light a Candle for Intention:

Before the house wakes up (or even while you’re getting ready), light a spell candle to set your intention for the day ahead. I like to use candles infused with herbs like lavender or rosemary for calm and focus. My go to shop is Little Coven which has some amazing witchy gifts including crystal candles. When you’ve lit you candle, close your eyes for a moment and think about how youโ€™d like your day to unfold. It could be as simple as โ€œI welcome calm and productivity todayโ€ or โ€œI have the strength to handle whatever comes my way.โ€ Once youโ€™ve set your intention, blow out the candle and start your amazing day!

Hold Your Power Crystal:

Keep a crystal near your bed or next to your toothbrush – somewhere youโ€™ll see it first thing. I always have a piece of citrine on my bedside table, and as soon as I hold it, I imagine drawing its energy into myself. Citrine is known for inspiring confidence and positivity, which is just what I need first thing in the morning.

Savour a Magical Drink:

Whether youโ€™re a coffee lover, a tea enthusiast, or a smoothie fan, turn your morning drink into a small ritual. Stir with intention (I go for a clockwise stir when I want to enhance my day) and take a deep breath as you sip, imagining yourself drinking in energy and positivity. Say a positive affirmation like, “I am going to have an amazing day!”.

The wonderful thing is that these practices take no more time than what youโ€™re already doing but leave you feeling centred before youโ€™ve even started your day.

Infuse Magic Into Your Commute (or the School Run!)

For many of us, thereโ€™s a stretch of the morning spent in transit. Whether youโ€™re driving the kids to school, commuting to work, or walking to your next destination, itโ€™s another perfect window to sprinkle in some magic. Itโ€™s all about reframing the โ€œin-betweenโ€ as a chance to focus on you, even for just a little while.

  • Carry a Travel Crystal: I always keep a small amethyst or black tourmaline stone in my bag or pocket. Both are great for protection and clarity, which feels comforting when Iโ€™m zipping around town. When traffic gets heavy or stress builds up, I touch the crystal, take a deep breath, and feel a little bubble of calm wrap around me.
  • Practice Magical Affirmations: Use your driving time (or even walking time) as a moment to repeat affirmations that connect with you. I like to start with something simple, such as, โ€œI am capable and strong, and I can handle anything that comes my way.โ€ Youโ€™ll be amazed how quickly they shift your mindset.
  • Use a Cleansing Spray: One of my favourite magical finds has been energy-cleansing sprays. Before heading out, I spritz a little in my car or around myself to create a peaceful and empowering energy bubble. Itโ€™s like spraying on confidence for the day.

These little tools can turn even the busiest school runs or commutes into a small act of magic.

Midday Magic to Keep You Grounded

The hustle and bustle of work and life can make it hard to pause and find your centre. But Iโ€™ve found that weaving small, magical rituals into the middle of my day helps me stay grounded and focused, even when my to-do list feels never-ending.

  • Mini Break with Crystals: If youโ€™re at a desk or even standing in the kitchen at home, carve out a two-minute crystal meditation. I keep a rose quartz on my desk at work, and when I feel frazzled, I hold it, close my eyes, and breathe deeply for a moment. Itโ€™s such a small thing, but it shifts my entire mood.
  • Create a Magical Work Space: You donโ€™t need a sprawling altar to feel magical at work. Keep it subtle and personal. Add a small candle (if allowed), a selenite wand for clearing negative energy, or even a small spray bottle of lavender mist. These elements help me stay connected to my inner magic even during busy meetings or deadlines.
  • Infuse Your Lunch With Loving Energy: Okay, this one might sound a little unconventional, but hear me out. Whether itโ€™s a packed lunch, quick leftovers, or a sandwich you grabbed on the go, take a moment to focus the energy youโ€™re putting into your meal. I like to say a quick mental โ€œthank youโ€ (if Iโ€™m out in public) and imagine it nourishing every part of me, giving me strength for the rest of the day.

These midday routines are bite-sized, but they help me keep my head above water when the day feels overwhelming.

End the Day With Magical Balance

The evenings are my chance to wind down and reflect on the day. With kidsโ€™ bedtime routines, dinner, and everything else to juggle, evenings can feel as busy as the mornings. But Iโ€™ve found that adding little night time rituals brings so much peace and balances my energy for the next day.

  • Unwind With a Ritual Bath: Bath time might be a luxury, but even a quick soak with an herbal ritual bath kit can be an absolute lifesaver. I love using these to unwind – think lavender for relaxation or eucalyptus for a refreshing reset.
  • Journaling With Intention: Before bed, I take a few minutes to jot down my thoughts or intentions. I may write about what Iโ€™ve achieved that day, how I want my tomorrow to look, or anything magical Iโ€™m manifesting. Journaling feels like such a grounding act and helps me reconnect with myself.
  • Practice Gratitude: Before sleep, I like to take a few moments to reflect on my day and think about all the things I am grateful for. This simple act reminds me to appreciate the good things in life, no matter how big or small they may be. Thereโ€™s something so calming and empowering about ending the day on such a mindful note.

This time is where all the threads of my day come together. It reminds me of my power and my ability to create little pockets of peace and intention wherever I need them.

A Magical Life, One Day at a Time

Being a working mum isnโ€™t easy, but the beauty of weaving small rituals into your day is that it makes even the hardest days feel a little more manageable – and a lot more magical. These ideas arenโ€™t about adding more to your to-do list; theyโ€™re about filling the cracks of your day with moments that remind you of who you are and the magic you carry within.

You donโ€™t need to overhaul your life or take a course in witchcraft to bring magic into your days. Itโ€™s already there, waiting in the spell candles, the crystals, and the small, magical pauses you allow yourself to take. My hope is that these tips inspire you to find your own rhythm of magic – one candle, one breath, one crystal at a time. Youโ€™re doing magic work every single day as a mum, showing up for your family and your dreams. Now itโ€™s time to show up for you.
