Whether you love them, hate them or think nothing about them at all, it’s undeniable that the British Royal Family has a huge influence on popular culture. Whether it’s hairstyles, fashion or Jewellery that’s being influenced, the royals have a far-reaching sphere of effect. Today, we’re going to take a tour of the best Royal Jewellery.
Royal Tiaras
If you’re talking about a royal family – any royal family – you need to talk about tiaras and crowns. These might not be the types of jewellery that people flock to the shops to imitate. However, they’re quintessentially royal and deserve recognition.
The first one to discuss is arguably the most famous – the Grand Duchess Vladimir Tiara. This beauty is made to hold 15 pearls or 15 emeralds, easy to swap out at the wearer’s discretion. This tiara found its origins in Russia, belonging to Grand Duchess Vladimir. The Grand Duchess was the last of the Romanov family lineage to escape from Russia after the revolution of the early 20th century. The tiara ended up in the hands of The Queen Mother, who eventually bequeathed it to Queen Elizabeth II.
Nowadays, Queen Elizabeth wears the tiara both ways often. She also lends it out to other Royal Family members for formal occasions of all kinds. Anyone else feeling as jealous as hell?
The Imperial State Crown is our next stop on the royal jewellery tour. Made for King George VI’s coronation, the crown is set with close to 3,000 diamonds, 17 sapphires, 269 pearls, and 11 emeralds. Although the Imperial State Crown is worn for coronations and State Openings of Parliament and not on many other occasions, it is still worth admiring and adoring. Possibly even more so because of its rarity.
Royal Rings
There are a lot of rings in the Royal Family. Whether they’re wedding rings, engagement rings, or just statement pieces. One prominent trend in the Royal Family is the practise of men wearing signet rings. The best example of this can be seen in Prince Charles. He is never seen without his signet ring on the little finger of his left hand. Like the old-fashioned gentleman that he is, he wears it alongside his wedding ring, as was once customary for gentlemen.
Another iconic ring coming from the Royal Family is the sapphire and diamond cluster ring worn first by Diana, Princess of Wales, and then later on by Kate Middleton. Needless to say, the immense popularity of Lady Di meant that demand for vintage sapphire rings is still high today. Of course, part of the increased demand recently is because of the marriage between Will and Kate in 2011.

When it was announced that the new princess would be wearing the same engagement ring as the beloved Diana, there was a significant increase of couples getting engaged with vintage sapphire rings in the cluster style.
Royal Brooches
The Royal Family are bound to remain objective and un-opinionated about all things that don’t require royal involvement. However, there is often speculation from the public that the queen is trying to communicate her feelings about certain things to the public through the use of her jewellery.
The queen has, it won’t surprise you, a myriad of brooches. Possibly even thousands – but they all have their own stories and histories, which matters. In 2018 the Trumps were received for the first time by Queen Elizabeth II at Buckingham Palace. Those in the know, observed that the modest agate floral brooch the queen wore was actually gifted to her by the Obamas on one of their visits to the UK.
It’s not possible to say whether the queen was really trying to send a message about her opinion of the Trumps, and Donald Trump as a president, through her jewellery. But even the suggestion set Twitter ablaze and we love to think of the queen as a jewellery sleuth.
What do you think about the jewellery of the Royal Family? Which would you most like to own yourself?
