Do you have a spare room over the holidays and people who you would love to have over to celebrate Christmas? If so, it is time to get your spare room ready for your Christmas guests.
Setting up your spare room before your guests arrive can be a daunting task. You want it to look inviting and comfortable, but you also have to work within the space you have at home and your budget. Luckily, there are plenty of ways you can transform your spare room into an unforgettable place for them to stay.
Here are some tips on how you can spruce up your spare room before they arrive.
1. Declutter
The first step is to clear the room of anything you no longer need and to tidy up the things you want to keep. If you’re like me the spare room has inadvertently become the junk room! To declutter I like to get three bags – Rubbish | Resell | Charity
Christmas is a great time to resell as people are looking for gifts for family and ways to save money. Facebook marketplace is a good option for local reselling or try an app like Vinted or Poshmark. There are lots of apps for old books too. Music Magpie will take old books and CDs in bulk.
If there’s anything you want to keep then tidy it away. Invest in some storage boxes if needed. You can do this on a budget and you will find some really nice storage boxes in shops like Pound Stretcher that are reasonably priced.
2. Clean and freshen the spare room
Once your room is nice and tidy the next step is to clean! There’s nothing quite like a freshly cleaned room. Once the room is cleaned and sparkling, freshen it up with some beautiful Christmas scents. Either a plug in air freshener, humidifier, reed diffuser or a wax melt will get the room smelling lovely.
3. Make sure the spare room is comfortable
There’s nothing worse than an uncomfortable bed. You want your guests to be well rested and comfortable so they can enjoy their Christmas holiday stay with you to the max. You also want the bed to look lovely and complement the room but be affordable too!
BesStar are an online Bedstore who have really gorgeous looking and affordable and best of all COMFORTABLE small double bed. Perfect for your guests! They are at very reasonable prices so it won’t break the budget either.
I love the Birlea Emily bed. Its curved rails and diligently crafted finials give it a really elegant appeal and it will look so lovely in your spare room. Made from steel, this beautiful bed frame will give you increased durability over time without compromising on aesthetics. Perfect if you have regular guests.

If you’re looking for storage solutions why not look at Divan beds. I love the Giltedge Beds Elation 1000 Divaln which offers both quality and good value. Again it looks lovely but what I love about this bed is that it also has storage including several drawer configurations and lift up ottoman options.

4. Make sure they have WiFi
Check that your WiFi works in your spare room. That way your guests can easily upload pictures of their happy holidays with you to their social medias and there will be no stress for them checking their email in bed in the morning.
5. Make your guests comfortable
Make sure the bed has a comfortable mattress so your guests can rest and refresh. You don;’t have to compromise price for comfort there are some great mattresses and brilliant prices.
Add some small touches to make sure your guests are super comfy. If the room gets chilly make sure there are plenty of blankets. You could leave towels at the end of the bed for your guests to use. And why not buy some cushions to make the room extra comfortable. Again these don’t have to be expensive. Shops like pound stretcher have excellent value cushions and towels for those perfect final touches. Or why not have a look at the charity shops? There’s often some excellent bargains to be found!
6. The small details
To make it extra special for your guests make sure they have everything they need. For example, a bedside lamp in case they want to read in bed or turn it on to get up in the night. You can make the room look extra special too by adding some flowers in a vase or a potted plant.
Family Time at Christmas
Lastly, have an amazing time with your guests. Christmas is very much about spending quality with your family and having them stay with you is the perfect way to have the very happiest of Christmasses.
