The Jungle Book First Stories mummy and toddler book review
A wander into town on my lunchtime break often means looking at storybooks or clothes for my 2 year old son. This time I happened upon this little picture book of The Jungle Book.
We already have the Peter Pan version of First Stories so I knew Sam would love this and I wasn’t wrong. The adventures of Mowgli and friends was just the sort of story Sam enjoys.
The words in this book are great for toddlers as they’re short and rhyming, so it holds their attention, and, as it’s a classic tale that you’re probably familiar with, you can add more detail if they are enjoying the story. The illustrations are bright and colourful, ideal to grab your little ones imagination. Sam was asking me lots of questions as he sat on my lap at bedtime. “What’s that?” came up a few times!
The board book has sturdy pages which means there will be no rips or tears so the book is pretty much damage proof (although I would never say never when it comes to a toddler)!
What Sam loves about this book
The push pull and slide scenes make this story come alive and the interactive story is great fun. Sam also loved the colours and the scenes depicted in the book. The back of the book had pictures of some of the other First Stories series which he also enjoyed looking at – I think I may have to order some more of these books!
What I love about this book
It’s bright, it’s colourful and it ignites an interest into a classic read for little ones. Rudyard Kipling’s magic continues through the generations
A great early introduction to literature classics, nostalgic of stories from when I was young. If you also love these books from your own childhood and want to have fun retelling them to your own children I would highly recommend this for ages from baby to 3 to 4.

Hi Ro,
If you and Sam like these you should have a look at the Julia Donaldson and Lynsey Dodd books. Lots of rhyme and easy for youngsters to memorise.
Thanks Dave, these sound great! I will check them out.
