Love from Santa: So Sand DIY Magic Sand Ball Satisfying Kit

Please forgive me for saying the C word. I know it’s only September! However, Christmas has an uncanny knack of creeping up on you, so I’m putting together a Santa plan to help savvy parents. Over the next few months I will be featuring toys on the blog that are perfect gifts from Santa Clause. That way there’s no mad rush in November/December to find stocking fillers. Plus it won’t be such a hit on Santa’s December budget if you’ve already got these bits in the bag (or the stocking!!). So this week I’m going to start the Love From Santa series with So Sand DIY Magic Sand Ball Kit by Canal Toys.

Why it’s the perfect gift from Santa

Firstly your kids are going to love it – it’s a fun and creative present from Santa. Also at £13 it’s excellent value for money for what you get. The fun bright colours will also look great in the stocking.

Sensory Stimulation

So DIY advice that the sand brings a real relaxing effect and a feeling of calm through soft, repetitive sounds. Perfect to help clam the kids down after the excitement of Christmas!

Why we love the So Sand DIY Magic Sand Ball Satisfying Kit

We loved the So Sand DIY Magic Ball Satisfying Kit because it wasn’t just about playing with the sand, you had to make the sand too. You have three packs of white sand, three packs of different colour powders and three packs of glitter. You fold and knead the colours into the white sand and then add the glitter for some sparkle.

You then start to play with the sand. There’s an element of creativty involved to make amazing designs. However, if you’re playing this with a four year old (like me), the fun is in the cutting and shaping and not the end results!

The recommended age range is 6+ and that’s probably right for creating cool designs and independent play. However, I do think this is also great for younger kids too (4+) with support from a parent. I loved playing with the sand with my son. It’s so therapeutic!

My only caution is that it is tricky to work out how to open the ball. You need to attach the handle and then twist the top. With no instructions it took me awhile to work it out!
