How to Grow Fruit and Vegetables Indoors

Whether you are looking to take up a new hobby or try your hand at living a more self-sustainable life, growing your own fruit and vegetables at home can be an exciting and fun venture to undertake.

Many people may assume that to be able to grow your own food, you would need plenty of outdoor space, but that is not the case. There are many ways you can grow fruit and vegetables at home even if you only have a small space to work with. All you need is a spot that gets plenty of sunshine and lots of patience and before you know it your indoor garden will be blooming!

What will I need to grow fruit and vegetables indoors?

As mentioned above, one of the most important things you need to successfully grow fruit and vegetables at home is a spot which gets lots of natural sunlight. How much sunlight you need will also depend on what sort of fruit and vegetables you want to grow. Lettuce and herbs may not require as much as plants that bear fruit, such as a pepper plant. You may want to avoid too much direct sunlight, however, as this could burn your plants. A nice light and airy space should do the trick.

It’s also important to make sure that you choose containers to grow your plants that have good drainage, as you don’t want to waterlog the soil. Speaking of soil, always try and use high-quality potting soil to give your seeds the best chance of growing into healthy plants, and be sure to water them regularly and keep an eye out for any pesky plant diseases or pests!

  1. I would never have thought you could grow strawberries indoors. We have a east and west facing window, the problem is that it attracts a lot of flies when we grow stuff indoors. How do you prevent that?

  2. I love growing herbs indoors, particularly basil. I have also grown tomatoes indoors but I didn’t have much success with them so I only grow them outdoors now.
